International Society is pleased to present a collection of new fashion designed by Li You-en. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept.8, at 8:00pm at the Tremont Theatre, 276 Tremont Street (next to the Wang Center,) Li You-en is a costume and scenery designer for the stage as well as a fashion designer trained by by Shanghai Drama Institute and Boston University's School for the Arts. He was a faculty of costume and make-up at his alma mater in Shanghai before coming to Boston. He spent years researching the clothing and adornments of the minority groups in southwest China. Eventually he contributed to the publication of a major work entitled Clothing and Adornments of China's Minority Nationalities. Inspired by the unusual decorative elements in the clothing of the different minority groups Li You-en set out to design this collection of apparel that fuses high fashion with ethnic motifs.
